Monique Lugo-López is a NCARB certified, registered architect, licensed to practice in Puerto Rico and Florida with over 25 years of experience in the fields of architectural design and construction.

In 2017, Monique joined Álvarez-Díaz & Villalón® as the Design Studio Manager and Senior Project Designer. Promptly, in 2018, she was appointed as the firm’s President and Chief Operating Officer. As a hands-on principal, Monique is personally responsible for the daily office operations, customer relations, studio schedule, business development and staffing of the firm. Under her collaborative leadership, AD&V® has successfully delivered projects in the commercial, institutional, residential, and interior design sectors with superior results. Monique’s daily work is focused on her commitment to organizational growth, improved performance and value while making a positive impact and setting AD&V® apart as the leading architecture and design services firm in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and the United States.

Lugo-López has a long-standing experience in Design Management, Code Compliance, Project Management and Construction Administration. She is results oriented and an expert in the preparation and review of construction documentation, work plans, and project agreements. She understands and masters the process for risk assessment evaluations, project reporting, presentation development and quality control reviews. Additionally, Lugo-López is technically proficient on the current federal, and local construction codes. Her professionalism, knowledgeable performance, and excellent delivery throughout her career has gained her an unquestionable reputation and good will.

As a key member of the AD&V® Team, she has hands-on participation in the design and management of multiple federal funded projects including affordable multi-family housing projects like the Jose Gautier Benitez Family and Elderly Housing Projects in Caguas, PR, currently under construction and other multifamily and elderly development projects in the island seeking funding by eligibility through LIHTC and CDBG-DR programs. She has also led through success hospitality projects like the new Residence Inn Hotel in Isla Verde and institutional projects like the Baldwin School Innovation Center in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.

Currently, Lugo-López leads AD&V®’s Team of architects, designers, drafters, and engineers in the completion of the Architectural Design and Design Management services for the CDBG-DR Home Repair, Reconstruction, or Relocation Program (R3) Construction Manager’s Program. Additionally, she presently acts as the primary contact and directs a team of architects and engineers to provide Progress and Milestone Inspection Services under the Puerto Rico Department of Housing (PRDOH) Community Block Grant Development Program Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) for Program Management Services.

Monique graduated from the University of Michigan with a Master’s in Architecture in 1996. Her professional trajectory included significant experience in residential, institutional, commercial and hospitality design projects. She has led and supported design and project teams in numerous federal, industrial and pharmaceutical projects.

Since 1996, Lugo-López has been an active member of El Colegio de Arquitectos y Arquitectos Paisajistas de Puerto Rico and the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Currently, she is the President elect of the AIA Puerto Rico Chapter. As part of her commitment to social transformation, she currently sits on the Board of Escuela con Causa, in Guaynabo, the first charter in Puerto Rico.
